We now see and review many of our patients in group clinics.
This is a well-established way of working and is especially good to support people who live with a long-term condition e.g. Diabetes, high blood pressure or who live with persistent symptoms e.g. Menopause; Long COVID.
There is a good chance that you will be offered a group clinic appointment if you need a review for the following conditions:
Diabetes
Asthma
COPD
Menopause
High blood pressure
Cancer care
Chronic pain
Pre-diabetes
Long COVID
If you are a carer, we may offer you a group carer review appointment.
Please take the opportunity to experience the benefits when you have the chance.
Group clinics have many benefits for you and your family:
They are scheduled well in advance so you get your appointment with plenty of notice
You get to spend longer with your GP team, and lots of time to get answers to your questions and ideas to help you better manage your health condition or symptoms
You feel supported and validated because you meet others in the same situation. You feel less alone and better able to cope
You learn more and gain confidence to manage your health issues.
If you are a carer you can accompany your loved one to their group clinic.
At Balance Street our group clinics can take place either via video or face to face sessions. Video group clinics can be really convenient if you have work or have mobility issues. Face to face sessions work well for patients who are more flexible in terms of time or feel a bit worried about using technology.

Physiotherapy
To self refer to physiotherapy, you can speak to one of our receptionists at the desk.
You will be given a form to complete which asks for details of the problem you are experiencing.
The form will then be triaged by the physiotherapy department who will then offer you an appointment if it’s deemed appropriate.
You don’t need a GP appointment to book an appointment with a physiotherapist.
If you have a musculoskeletal problem (pain/discomfort affecting your muscles, ligaments and tendons or bones) and you think you would benefit from seeing a physiotherapist, you can book this direct.
You fill in a form stating what the problem is and this is triaged by the physio department and they will offer you an appointment if appropriate.
Vasectomy Clinic
Balance Street Practice has been performing vasectomies for over 40 years, with Dr Barron specialising in vasectomy consultations and operations for over 30 years. Vasectomies are a very common procedure, Dr Barron has performed over 3,000 vasectomies.
We practice the No-Scalpel Technique. The operation is usually completed in around 15 minutes using a local anaesthetic and we rarely have any waiting lists.
Benefits of the No-Scalpel Technique:
Faster recovery time
Thought to be less painful
Shorter procedure time
Reduced risk of infection
Vasectomies are more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy and should be considered a permanent method of contraception. However, you should continue to use an alternative method of contraception to prevent pregnancy until you have sent of your sample and received confirmation that your sample has been processed and the procedure was a success.
We mainly provide vasectomies on the NHS for most of Staffordshire and South Derbyshire although we can also provide private vasectomies following a referral from your GP.
Please call the surgery on 01889 562145 for more information.
Travel Vaccinations
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the Fit for Travel website below
Make an initial appointment at least 6 weeks before you travel – Vaccines need to be ordered in
Attend second appointment at least 2 weeks before you travel – allow time for the vaccines to work
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
